A critical vulnerability in OpenSSL (CVE-2014-0160: OpenSSL Private Key Disclosure Vulnerability) was recently disclosed, affecting any server running OpenSSL 1.0.1 through 1.0.1f. This issue allows arbitrary memory readout, which effectively exposes primary key material and compromises the integrity of the secure channel.

This flaw within OpenSSL potentially impacts two elements of the Embrane heleos platform:

  • the REST API communication interface
  • the SSL offload functionality on the Embrane Load Balancer

To immediately mitigate the risk associated with this issue, customers should limit REST API communication access to a trusted management network.

Embrane currently is working to provide upgrades for all supported releases.

Customers using Embrane’s firewall, VPN and/or load balancer (without SSL offload) are not impacted.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact support.
